A bold, irreverent brand for a payments company with attitude
About the project
Pixxles is a UK-based payment provider serving high-risk, high-vibe industries—think cannabis dispensaries, adult retailers, and other underserved businesses. They needed a bold, unmistakable brand to match their niche clientele.
Existing branding lacked consistency, clarity, or usability.
The logo was overly complex and hard to reproduce across mediums.
The client wanted to embrace their edge—loud colors, cheeky tone, and all.
My role spanned full rebrand and end-to-end website design.
Initial logo options
Design process
We kicked things off with logo and color explorations, aiming for something that felt punchy, modern, and just a little risqué. The client gravitated toward bright neon palettes and a custom “xx” ligature that hinted at their edgier clientele.
I originally favored a simpler pixel-style “P” icon, but found a way to bring that same retro energy into a more dynamic mark that balanced client preferences with usability. We landed on a primary logo featuring a glowing neon “xx” in gradient pinks and yellows, paired with a dark indigo background to keep things legible and grounded.
To bring the identity to life:
I built a flexible logo system with primary and secondary lockups.
I named the brand colors—cheeky, memorable, and tone-forward.
I wrote brand guidance to help steer future messaging, visual tone, and voice.
One of my favorite parts of any new brand is naming colors. This exercise was extra fun in this particular case, since the client was very open to off-the-wall, risqué messaging.
Website design
Once the brand was locked, we turned to the website. The goal was clear: make it bold, vibrant, and nothing like their competitors. Highlights included:
A full-screen mega menu that surfaced both product details and thought leadership.
Oversized buttons (some within buttons—yes, buttonception) to drive applications.
A mix of soft drop shadows, playful curves, and pixelated touches to blend retro and modern.
While the final site and brand system were never launched due to shifting client priorities, the work stands as a bold, well-rounded example of identity and web design for a niche fintech brand.
The final direction balanced personality with practicality—giving Pixxles a distinct voice and visual style in a space that often plays it safe. The designs were completed, presented, and well-received by the broader creative team, setting a strong foundation for future rollout.
